RAFTING / HIKING / STAND UP PADDLE / CANORAFT or AIRBOAT
Between the river Arve and the river Giffre, the chaine des Fiz separates le Vallon de Sale and the Vallon d’Anterne. Here we can enjoy two of the most beautiful walks in the region. Adding a session of Rafting and Canoraft/Airboat on the Giffre plus a double session of Stand Up Paddle on the Arve, we have 5 days of varied and exciting activity.
Rafting in the morning on the Giffre in Samoens. Enjoy the rapids and a passage through the stunning Gorges des Tines. In the early afternoon we set off for Anterne. Beginning at Lignon, the climb is steep up to the waterfalls de la Sauffaz and de la Pleureuse, and then follows a narrower path which is less steep. Arriving at Collet d’Anterne we see the splendid Chaine des Fiz and a beautiful valley that we can follow with ease. A bridge takes us across the Anterne stream and we soon reach the Alfred Wills refuge (1810m) where we will spend the night. It takes approx. 3 hours to climb the 700m elevation, with time to admire the Alpine flowers and marmots along the way.
After a good breakfast we leave for Lake Anterne and its numerous playful and (almost!) friendly marmots. This is in my opinion, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Alps; your photos will confirm this! We will continue up to the Anterne Pass and as you will still be full of energy, we’ll take the narrow path to the Tete de Moede (2459m) where we will have a picnic lunch. We descend to the Moëde refuge or the Gite du Chatelet for the night.
8.30 departure for a pretty route to Lake Vert. An Ecolorado bus will take us to Passy for a session of Stand Up Paddle. Initially we’ll have a session on the lake for 40 – 45 min where you will learn how to paddle your board and refine your technique. With this training you will paddle for 7km on the Arve to Magland.
Afternoon relaxing at Passy lake. In the evening our bus will take you to the gite du Chatelet near Plaine Joux where you can relax before dinner.
Your rucksack will be lighter when you leave your overnight essentials at the refuge and we continue to the Colloney Pass. This entails crossing the ‘desert of Platé’, an extraordinary lapiaz, famous all over the world.
We’ll then hike back to the refuge for a good meal and a good night!!!
09.00 departure. We will head towards the Col de Portette (2354m) from which we will see, and visit, Laouchets lake and then cross the Sales valley. It’s a breathtaking setting, all you have are ibex for neighbours! It’s not a technically difficult trek, so you can relax, take plenty of photos and enjoy nature at it’s best. We will end the day having passed Chalets de Sales, pas de Sales, Sofa waterfall, Pleureuse waterfall and then the Lignon chalets.
You can have a well deserved rest in the morning!!
In the afternoon, we’ll meet at Ecolorado base for a canoraft or airyak session on the Giffre, thereby ending this super week of water and mountain activities.
