Winter Mountain Activities Northern Alps

Snowshoeing / Hiking in Samoëns (74)

Winter

WILDLIFE IN A MAJESTIC SETTING

Encompassing an area that stretches from Faucigny to Chablais, we offer Snowshoeing Nature Walks supervised by Mireille and Alain, mountain guide graduates since 1985. Every week from Sunday to Friday we offer a varied programme adapted to the weather conditions. We can also arrange night walking which ends with a fondue.

Accessible to most people and progressing in difficulty, we try where possible to keep the ability level of a group on a par. For children from 7/8 we will make the route more playful when there is the opportunity to do so, for example, sliding down a snow bank!

The subject of nature is vast but we will focus on you and your day to explore and understand the mountain environment. Our themed hikes, which are different every day, will look to include the mountain animals (roe deer, deer, wild boar, hare, chamois, ibex, mouflon, fox…),  the trees of the Northern Alps  (spruce, fir, maple, larch, ash, alder, yew…) and the traditional habitats, (farms, ‘’remue’’, ‘’mazot’’…).

For better interaction we try not to exceed 12 people per guide

Sunday: A walk exploring the valley, with panoramic views (depending in the snow conditions).

Monday: Le Fer à Cheval, with Ibex, views, and ice waterfalls.

This easy hike will get the legs going! You will come away with a better understanding of the mountain animals and their extraordinary adaptation to their environment.

Tuesday: The life of the forest, see animal tracks, views of Mont Blanc, a super walk through the forest.

You will discover the main tree species of the mountain, their uses, their development and above all you switch off completely from every day stress!

Wednesday: Le vallon des Munes, a beautiful walk in the valley where you can see chamois and mouflon with the naked eye or a telescope and we talk about them in detail.

Thursday: Trapper day, a mixture of forest paths and glorious panoramas, good humour and conviviality around the wood fire that we have all helped to prepare. There are often 2 guides on this day allowing us to mix sporty and less sporty clients. After lunch those who wish can climb to a pass, the others will spent more time contemplating the chamois!

OR a half day walk for clients who do not wish to join the trapper day.

Friday: We love to finish the week with a super walk to La Rosière above Samoens or to Sincerneret above Les Gets. It will depend on snow conditions but in any case it will be wonderful!

* At your request, we can also organize other sessions in the morning, or at the week end
and night walking with fondue *

Half day: €24/person (with snowshoes, poles and overshoes)

Trapper day: €36/person

Including transport: We meet at the Tourist Office in Samoens or at Ecolorado’s Office at 1148 route de Sixt, 74340 Samoens or often we can even pick you up at your accommodation.

You must bring walking shoes or snow boots. Comfortable weather-proof clothing. Gloves, sun glasses and sun cream. Small backpack with water. Picnic for the trapper day.
